I was getting my tonsils out this past Wednesday so I had quite the list of food that I wanted to eat beforehand. Grilled cheese and chocolate cake were both on my list and I knew East Bay Deli could get both of these done in one stop. This location was busier than the Mount Pleasant one but there were only a couple of folks in front of me around noon on Monday. The first thing that really peeved me off at this location was the service. The kids behind the register looked like they were still in high school and one just stood there and ignored the line. The other one finally helped me but she refused to make eye contact with me the whole time and seemed generally annoyed that I was there. But whatever, it's a deli chain, not a steak house, so I got over it. I ordered the grilled cheese ($4.79) and substituted fries for an additional 99 cents. The grilled cheese was pretty good, they let me choose my bread but didn't ask what type of cheese I wanted on it. I think it came with american and cheddar. I would probably pass on the fries next time, they were crinkle cut and a little soggy, plus the seasoning they put on them didn't taste like anything at all. The one mistake I made was not ordering my chocolate cake, since I never went anywhere else that had cake before my surgery. As I lay here now, subsisting on broth and percocet...I've learned my lesson, never put off buying the chocolate cake. I'm giving this place a 3 because it's better than Ye Olde, but as soon as I find a good Jewish deli or Italian sub shop I bet my visits here will stop.

This place serves up some great sandwiches and their salad bar is awesome. The staff is always friendly and it's a busy place at lunch.

I'm always looking for a good deli and East Bay Deli hit the spot. I ordered the veggie wrap. It was quite good, spinach, guacamole, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and tomato in a sun-dried tomato wrap. I opted to switch out my potato chips for deli fries - wow were those great. My only complaint was that my wrap had lots of veggies, but no real sauce. I'm a vegetarian, but sometimes just veggies don't do it. I'd recommend this restaurant. Oh yeah, and they have a salad bar too - it looked like there were many items to choose from.

I came in with a hankering for Chicken Caesar salad and that's what I ordered. I got exactly what I expected, an enormous salad with croutons, tasty chicken breast, parmesan cheese and creamy caesar dressing. I was very pleased with my meal. As far as the restaurant, you'll see Americana memorabilia covering the walls. The way ordering food works is, you order and pay at the register, they give you a number and then bring the order to your table. The girl at the register was friendly, but didn't seem to know the menu well. I just assumed that she was new. Final Thoughts: This is a casual spot and the food is simple and straight forward.

Fantastic eats!! Every sandwich is loaded with freshness! The portions are incredible and the service has always been excellent. It's nice to go into a place and every single employee you encounter is friendly and helpful! And their desserts are to die for!

I want to like this place because it's so convenient. Three times we've ordered sandwiches and three times at least one of us has been sick. The food always tastes fine so I'm not sure if they aren't cleaning the produce or what. But it's not super great anyways. It's okay, not memorable. The desserts look amazing. Don't, just don't. The cakes are usually dry and the cheesecakes are really heavy, not in the good way.

OK deli (not even close to The Eclectic Chef in Summerville). The East Bay Deli is a local chain in Charleston. I've been patronizing two locations primarily since moving to the Charleston area three years ago. Their sandwiches and wraps are OK but nothing to write home about. Sometimes they just have odd flavors in their sandwiches due to ingredients that may be out of the ordinary. Their carrot cake looks delicious but it's ALWAYS dried out. At a ridiculous $7 per slice, this is unacceptable quality. Cheesecake is OK, but if you want fruit topping it's close to $8 per slice. If you are going to try one of these locations, stay away from this one (University Blvd.). They consistently have the worst service around. They tend to hire teenagers or very young people to work the counters without adult supervision. I had to stand in line behind a kid talking to his girlfriend behind the counter for five minutes before she would take my order the last time I was here. There are plenty of places around with better food that costs less and deliver better customer service.

I don't understand how this place is still in business. The food is horrible!!! I have given it 2 tries now just to make sure it wasn't just a fluke or something. Today I confirmed it is still disgusting!!!

The meatball sub is the best thing they got I've been a few Times for lunch until I tried the sandwich the only reason I gave a 3 was the price way to much for the amount of food and there chips come straight from a lays bag

This is really a good deli. We were just looking for something to tide us over for a few hours. Wife and I shared a Reuben sandwich, it came with chips & a pickle. Corned beef on very fresh rye bread with sauerkraut, Russian dressing and Swiss cheese. They were not skimpy with the ingrediance. It was great. Friends split a turkey sandwich. It was also very good. The store was clean and the service was good. Great little deli. We will return.

Got the Gyro because I love greek cuisine. I felt the prices were a bit expensive for what they offered, but I didn't mind as long as the food was good. My Gyro with fries was spectacular. I especially liked that they put the taz sauce on the side so it wouldn't sog up the flatbread, and the fries were very hot and seemed like they were made to order. The quality was outstanding. I really wished I could've subbed my fries for a soup with upcharge, but oh well. Great environment for a casual date or getting a quick bite with friends.

Been here a few times now the food has been good the cheese cake slices are large and not bad. I've seen a few things that I was not happy about when I comes to cleanliness. So I won't eat at the buffet. But thats what you get when you have alot of kids working but for now I will still eat there

My wife and I have tried several different things here. It is pricey and the cake slices are huge, (enough for two.) the only bad sandwich we have had so far is the hamburger. My favorite is Chicken Parm!

A little pricey for sandwiches, but it tastes really good. I got a half egg salad sandwich with the salad bar. I don't remember which sandwich my husband got, but he liked it. The salad bar was extremely fresh, and had quite a few options. The staff was friendly, and it was pretty quiet in there. There was a little kid running around the place, but there was plenty of room for that, and he wasn't bothering anyone. I would rather him run around that be stuck in the booth screaming! :-)

Overpriced, left the cheese off my wrap, and overcharged on my order. This place sucks.

We were returning from a trip to Charleston, and we all needed a quick lunch. We were impressed with the selection offered on the menu, although there were so many choices it took us an awkwardly long time to choose. I would have liked a slightly more clear, concise menu. Service was very warm, and our cashier really impressed me with her thoughtfulness. The sandwiches were all very delicious, and everything tasted fresh. I had the Italian sandwich; certainly not an Italian hoagie, but a tasty sandwich nonetheless! My wife had one of the daily specials, with chicken, pesto, mozzarella, etc. My buddy had blackened tilapia, which was spicy and well cooked. It's definitely a chore to get into, so be careful making that turn! We'll definitely stop by on our next trip.

Cheesecake, cheesecake, cheesecake! Expensive but the portion is generous. I also got the chicken and cranberry sandwich after staring at the menu for a good 5 minutes- it's an extensive one. I must say that this joint is a healthier alternative to greasy Zaxby's next door (my initial choice for a fast dinner). The service was sub-par. When I asked about the popularity of the options on the menu, I got the deer in headlights look. Not too impressed with the workers or their social skills with the customers. Good food and so-so service equals an A-OK.

Parking is a pain but they do have someone out there directing traffic during peak hours. Once inside though there is prompt service, huge menu of tasty items and plenty of seating. I had the Carolina, which was loaded with turkey, bacon, avocado, sprouts, provolone all on toasted wheat. Served with chips and a pickle spear.

Went for lunch after a long hiatus and after our experience, my husband and I both said "Ahhh--now I remember why we don't come here anymore." Don't get me wrong--one of the best salad bars in the area, great choices and sandwiches. BUT THE SERVICE . . . yikes. No "how may I help you"--just an "are you ready?" and no "thank you" . . . nothing could coax a smile out of any of the pretty young girls behind the counter (and there are a LOT of them). Their expressions range from boredom to sheer annoyance and general irritability. It wasn't even busy (we were the only ones in line) so it's not like they were stress induced--they are just simply the most unpleasant front of house staff I've ever encountered in the food service industry. It's a good thing the food is good enough to bring the customers.

Beats the usual fast food crap in the surrounding area. Decent salad bar. Clean and quick service. Ingress and egress in the parking area can be tricky during busy times.

Maybe this was a bad night for EBD but it was, at best, blah. Nice menu, and plenty of stuff on it. I ordered a burger, just random, to try. It was less than appealing. It really looked like two of those bulk patties you get a Sams smushed on top of each other. The portion of chips was small. The cashier/waitress was more interested in updating her Facebook status than taking my order. Leaving I find piles of trash on top of the already full containers. Oh, and the sweet tea was pretty much sour. This was a first time and since first impressions are everything, I won't be back. Sorry EBD.

The only thing I've eaten here is the veggie crisp sandwich. Yeah not to daring for me, but once you have something in a cafe/deli that's really good and not common to find anywhere else, don't you just crave that one thing when you go there? I do with said veggie crisp. Maybe next time I'll switch it up. Oh yeah i read in the review by jamie m mentioning the location of this place, and I wonder if she was talking about the entrance. There's no on the road entrance and it's on that busy highway and there omg get this it's so friggen weird... a slop in the sidewalk (like so cars could get through) and I was thinking "There's the entrance!!" well that lead to grass and some bushes and as I strategized possibly driving thru anyway, i realized I wouldn't be able to make it through those shrubs. And had to turn around... in 6 lanes. I'm so not used to the road here at all, oy ve O__O Then on the way back I came upon a side road (no lights there, it's all about jumping through traffic on this rd) So the only entrance is on this side rd... OMG who the hell designs these places?? Well if you're turning left into East bay deli, good luck. Don't miss that friggen side road!

I like EBD. Their sandwiches are always good and made with quality products. My only qualm with it though, is that their portions can be on the small side sometimes. When I think deli sandwiches, I think of big honkin' piles of meat on rye bread. You don't really get that here. Again, the food is good, but could be bigger.

I decided to stop at East Bay Deli for dinner on my way to my hotel for the night. East Bay Deli has an expansive menu, a decent serving area and even a salad bar. After checking out the menu, which offers some deli mainstays like the Reuben, and something you won't find anywhere, I decided to order the Charleston Chicken. I found this to be quite delicious. However, the service size was a bit small, especially for the prices they charge.

Staff was helpful and polite but the food was sub-par. I ate their one time, same the nutrition facts and realized the food was rather land. Not a place I would recommend unless you want an overpriced mass produced sandwich.

I've never had a bad experience with East Bay Deli. The food is a bit pricey but it hits the spot every time. My personal favorite is the Charleston Chicken and a cup of the broccoli cheddar (which has tons of cheese!). The staff is always friendly and professional and the average wait time for order (even during the lunch rush) is about 10 to 15 minutes.

I've eaten here several times with friends, one of which lives close by and at their other locations. Great deli, with a salad bar. Great casual place to dine and grab a sammy (although their salads are great too).

I am not a fan of deli dining for the most part, but East Bay Deli changed my opinion from the time I walked in the door. At first glance, diners think they have to read the very small print on the menu just inside the door, but if you look around, there is a huge backboard listing everything you could hope for behind the counter. Despite the college kids behind the counter who are just there to make some money to survive, the food is excellent. Try the giant spuds and be careful what you add with that order as these things are enormous! I liked this deli so much (had the lamb gyro) at lunch I took the family back for dinner. We sampled the french dip, baked potato, salad bar, chili, and soup du jour - All excellent....Could use more volume on the music - but for the price - excellent choice.
